PRESERVATION TEXAS HONOR AWARDS SELECTS
TREVIÑO-URIBE RANCHO “BEST HISTORIC RESTORATION” 2014
Houston, TX - TREVIÑO-URIBE RANCHO was one of six buildings across the state selected this year in the annual Preservation Texas 2014 Honor Awards “Historic Restoration” category. Frank Briscoe accepted the award on behalf of The River Pierce Foundation. The ceremony also honored fellow River Pierce Advisory Members:
Architectural Historian Terri Myers “Truett Latimer Award” Texas A&M Scholar David Woodcock “Carla Driscoll Award”
The façade was damaged in 2011 during road paving work in San Ygnacio when a truck loaded with asphalt accidentally sprayed the north facing exterior wall. The incident was publicized through social media and became front page news in the San Antonio Express-News, raising awareness of a forgotten corner of U.S. history. Preservation Texas presented the awards at a ceremony in Houston, Texas, at the 1910 restored Harris County Court House November 22, 2014. Because the asphalt was soaked into the mortar and masonry, a non-abrasive method for removal of the asphalt was required to preserve the mortar. After lengthy insurance negotiations and on-site tests, Briscoe was hired to execute the restoration, which was completed in June 2012.
